Colorado’s medical cannabis business licenses are slowly decreasing as the adult-use industry steadily ramps up, according to an annual report by the state’s Marijuana Enforcement Division.

Three months before edibles regulations take effect nationwide, officials in Quebec, Canada have announced a ban on sweetened cannabis edibles containing THC, including (temporarily) topicals.

Under new Health Canada regulations, single-serving cannabis edibles will have their THC content capped at just 10 milligrams of THC per package. Industry advocates call it regulatory overreach and warn that the rules will lead to excessive packaging waste.

A recent report suggests that the addition of infused cannabis products to Canada’s legal marketplace could be worth about $2.7 billion per year, with edibles alone expected to generate $1.6 billion in sales.

A recent survey reveals that interest among Canadians in cannabis-infused edibles — which are not yet available via the official marketplace — has dropped since legalization took effect last October.

The Cannabis Beverage Producers Alliance in Canada is pushing for changes to the country’s proposed cannabis edibles rules that would allow producers to manufacture infused beverages inside of facilities that also produce alcoholic beverages.

Florida agriculture regulators have finalized rules for the manufacturing and sales of medical cannabis-infused edible products; the rules must also be considered by health regulators, however, before becoming law.

The proposed rules would establish standards for the production, packaging, and distribution of edible and topical cannabis products, which are not yet legal in the country.
